Buy Nothing: Everything's Free Here

Recently, a friend expressed interest in how my husband Sean and I had scooped up and old slot machine, easily worth at least $500, without having to open our wallets. It reminded me: a penny saved is a penny earned. That in mind, have you heard of the Buy Nothing project? The concept: some people post things they no longer want or need for free, some people post things they're in need of, and a lot of money and landfill space is saved. More info here:

For those of you who also happen to be local to Las Vegas, NV, this is one of our main local groups:

For those of you elsewhere, search for "Buy Nothing" + your area (i.e., town, suburb, etc.) on Facebook, and you should be able to find one easily enough. If not, search here for one near you:

You can also create a group yourself if your area doesn't yet have one. For now, these groups are primarily just on Facebook, though the Buy Nothing project is currently working on an app of their own, I believe.

Keep in mind, giving goes both ways! Besides donating to thrift stores and recycling what I can, this is one of my favorite ways to clear clutter while doing good for others. Of course, you can save a whole hell of a lot of cash and snag some badass scores too!
